1. Welcome to Thailand Vapers, an English language forum for members in Thailand and the rest of Asia to talk about vaping.
Commonly referred to as e-cigarettes, vaping is really about the use of personal vaporizers (mods) and atomizers (tanks, clearos, RBAs, RDAs, RTAs) filled with e-liquid.

Did anyone's DNA 40 spaz out after 90 days?

Besides the fact that the flat black coating of the authentic vaporflask squonk has the hardness resistance of wet tissue paper and instantly looked like it was dragged from the bumper of a moving vehicle in less than a week with nothing more than going in and out of a pocket...

Now from nothing but light usage on the tail end of first to grab devices list... No stress, no falls, no tests of its reverse polarity protection (it does have that, right? Well, it isn't relevant anyways...), it behaves as if the down put is constantly pressed. Despite the fact it clearly is not. This makes the mod unusable.

According to the vaporshark website where this physical manifestation of sin encrusted karma was obtained from, third party devices are warrantied for 30 days. Am tempted to crack it open to inspect the connection to the board but am hoping someone has some magic key combo to reset the thing to factory settings or something before it goes under the knife.

    Anyone?

Yeah, could editing be re-enabled on the original post? It was typed in a hurry and there are a few things that must be fixed for reasons that cannot be comprehended on this plane of existence...

Oh, and the word "put" as in 'down put' should be "button" - that was a typo or auto correct fub or something.

It acts AS IF the down button is being pressed down, but mechanically speaking, it is not. The button still enjoys its full "clicky" action up and down without and stickiness or obstruction.

If anyone is familiar with the insides of these things, surely you'd agree that there is tactile switch that is almost certainly sitting just under the nub of metal (or plastic?) that is the surface of the button you press. Also if one is familiar with tactile switches, they'd know they are extremely simple things, with very little that can fail with them. If the mechanical action of the tactile switch is unchanged (remains clicky and the action is unimpeded) the chances of something becoming dislodged or some foreign matter bridging the connection is improbable..

Ah, wait a minute. Aw, crap. Come to think of it... By this line of reasoning, there would be little hope of anything except to swap the the board itself...

    K. Will write the next bit about the VF customer service experience.

    Cheers.

    Update:

After lots of searching and reading about issues with the DNA 40 and not finding a satifying solution beyond, "just send it back" taken with some contemplation of ideas such as those posted here... Finally the bullet was bitten and the vapor flask "squonk" was cracked open.

    Here is what was found:

The reason the device was behaving as if the down button was constantly being pressed down, is because the down button was constantly being pressed down. The suspicion that some far away expert would not be the only person technically qualified to make an assessment such as this was confirmed.

The solution is to reseat the board in its sled and verify that there is no pressure created onto the board by all the wires and tape and so forth that are crammed in there. The second down button, the one that is on the board itself, was being pressed by the wires run across the board.

If something like this should happen to someone else, and that person would rather not capitulate to the notion all systems must be closed, this should help.

Also, some nice carbon fiber wrap was found at a local tesco lotus so now the device does not entirely have the outward appearance of a steaming pile of poo to boot. Will have to do something about the surface of the buttons and top plate which could have been mauled by a thin wristed prepubescient girl with her bare hands...

But all in all, there you have it. A happy ending. Oh wait, probably not the right choice of words for a Thailand forum... Its an ending that doesn't suck for all involved. Nope, still wrong. The thing works again and it did not require time and money... Meh, good enough.
