1. Welcome to Thailand Vapers, an English language forum for members in Thailand and the rest of Asia to talk about vaping.
Commonly referred to as e-cigarettes, vaping is really about the use of personal vaporizers (mods) and atomizers (tanks, clearos, RBAs, RDAs, RTAs) filled with e-liquid.

This is just a heads up so whoever is reading can be aware of this. Came accross other conversations/threads on other forums, and just wanted to throw this out so that you can make an informed decision. We we are all adults here and if you are old enough to decide to using nicotine/tobacco you are old enough to decide which equipment you want to use. There is some debate on the safety of the use of some metals in vaping gear. Most of the discussion I have seen is in the atomizers, which contain juice, and can be acidic which could leach out other metals (such as lead). However, there is potential of leaching out of your battery mod when you handle it it due to perspiration. It's kind of complicated so I advise you to do your own research, because I do not know for certain.

Are we buying gear from China? Answer: I know I am. How does the distrubutor such as HCigar, Fasttech, EhPro etc. get their wares? Buy subcoontracting to other manufacturers who make the parts. What is the mixture of metals that they use in their alloys such as in brass, copper, or chromed brass? Answer: I don't know. Could their metals possibly contain lead? I don't know.

    Just be aware:

Brass may be toxic: Brass made atomizer are toxic?

chromed brass may be toxic: Brass + Juice = BAD: FastTech Forums

copper may be toxic: Copper toxicity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Are these people posting full of shit? I don't know. I do know that I primarily prefer to stick to stainless steel or plastic, definitely when it comes to atomizers and drip tips. Make your own choice with what you want to do with your body, just be aware that there is some debate.

And maybe if you want to use brass or copper, you should use this stuff to wrap when handling (it's cheap enough).

EDIT: can someone change the heading title to "toxicity"? The thing won't let me edit typo on subject. And I feel retarded about spelling it "toscity".

    Title edited.

Let me just put my 2 cents in on this. People seem to not understand what levels of toxicity are. Just because something is toxic (and virtually everything is toxic) doesn't mean it is at a level high enough to harm you.

I'll hit the brass first since I was looking into it the other day. Especially in the cheap clones that we don't know the grades of metal being used, there is most likely lead all over the surface of the mod. It is trivially easy to remove.

Removing surface lead from brass - Home Brew Forums

Chromed brass is kind of stupid to worry about. The chrome would have to be removed or worn down, which would expose a trivially small area with an infinitesimally small amount of lead.

Copper can cause issues, but again the amount is trivial. You won't see a full copper atty because: 1. It would be expensive. 2. It is too soft. 3. The people making these things aren't complete idiots. A mod would be of no concern.

People talk about these things like they are liquid metal. If a 100 grams Brass Kayfun contained 8% lead (an upper limit), that would be 8 grams. Remove the surface lead with a quick soak in hydrogen peroxide and vinegar. Lets say you remove .1 gram of lead, are the other 7.9 grams going to magically leech out of the brass? Keep in mind, this is an absolute worst case scenario. Most brass has in the vicinity of .25% lead to meet California standards.

They are full of shit, like most armchair quarterbacks out there. One person says something stupid, everyone echos it and blows things out of proportion.

Also, the wraps are a good idea, but you can also just put a wax or varnish on them as well. Great for sealing in a patina, which is what I intend to do if I ever get around to getting a copper mod and engraving it.

^^ Can't disagree with you because I really don't know. Just making sure everyone knows it may potentially be an issue so they can look into it themselves. :) It may be trace levels and not dangerous, but it is not that hard to eliminate even a minor potential. Thank you for editing heading. :)

as long people have mercury (amagan) in their teeth, and that there is MSG and Aspartame in almost every food added, Iodine and Flourine to the water i would say we really dont need to worry about toxic levels there cause compared to the others ones they are non existant in terms of thread level
