Curious what you're not very fond of SD. Mine's been an absolute workhorse and very reliable. It's been through a lot of knocking around etc and while scratched up some hasn't had any issues. Built like a tank. Now I've got a clear silicon cover on it and it's been a great addition.

I hardly see a fixed pin as a problem so long as it mates with the subtank properly. The fact that they took advice to improve the product shows they are a company who listens and tries to improve in an obviously quick fashion. What could possibly be wrong with that? Am I missing something?

Well, it's more a case of why it wasn't spring loaded in the first place as they're fully aware a huge percentage of people won't just be using it with Subtanks.

They did not start to listen yesterday. They knew very customers prefer a floating pin. By releasing the product in two steps, you increase your sales forecasts.

It's a well known sales strategy that always leave a bitter taste for the consumer. But nothing surprising :)

It is an entry level box mod. This is Kanger... The guys who brought you the protank. This is a box mod that comes with a tank as a package. Think of it this way..... My first time walking out of a shop about a year and a half ago.... I walked out with a blue Ego twist kit, a protank 2 and a couple little bottles of crappy chinese juice. This setup is meant to take the place of those. It isn't meant to be cutting edge. Kanger does a suprisingly good job at creating a good product that works good enough for most people. Is it the best of the best?.... No, but it's certainly good enough for the masses. Good for them that they try to stay on top of the game.
    **Updated**
You have to realize.... Kanger is huge. I mean enormous. They are in every corner smoke shop. They are in 7-11s. They have to be very careful and quiet in how they upgrade their stuff. If they aren't careful, next thing you know their supply chain all wants to return their stock in exchange for the updated models that everyone now wants. Kanger is not in the same boat as most other Manufacturers... except maybe Aspire.... and Aspire is a distant second supply chain wise. Upgrades and changes in these products wont look anything like the rest of the vaping world. They will just quietly improve the products and just keep selling them.

I am not sure I am following you here but I disagree on the fact they should be quiet about their improvements. Kanger owns their factories which means they are extremely flexible in production. They do not owns shops which means their products are sold out of the factory. While they certainly want the shop to sell as much as possible, what is left unsold in a shop does not directly impact them.

Thanks to that flexibility, they are able to release products very often. Each time, it creates a necessary branding boost, because these products on this particular market have very short lifespan. Adding a small improvements on one product is going to raise awareness and will theoretically boost the sales.

The company ultimate goal is to successfully planned these improvements ahead and anticipate the sales/hype drop of their products.

I think Kanger is a great company, I like their product and I start vaping with them. Nonetheless, their are doing business and that particular "move" is IMO despicable, no matter who does it :)

^All the more reason to do it right in the first place then.

Aspire have just delayed the release of the Pegasus to implement TC but they could of taken the route of Kangertech and released it as is and then released the TC version several weeks later.

I doubt Aspire delayed the release out of chinese kindness ^^

They were simply too late to release a mod without TC. They did not have much choice, who would buy a Pegasus Mod without TC in September 2015 ? Kanger bundle their subox because it's not such a great deal on a stand alone anymore. It's a great mod, but it's so "2014" :)

This kind of startegy sucks for consumers point of view, but for company point of view, it is a must do.

Of course they didn't but my point was that the expense related to switching boards and swapping a 510 are huge.

Kanger doesn't sell the Subox separately do they? If not I kind of give them a pass as they do package it as a starter kit with an atty that works very well with it.

Does that mean they should have gone with a fixed pin? I don't think so, especially given how so many potential customers for quite some time now have bemoaned the lack of floating or adjustable 510 pins in some mods.

Was it ignorance about or was it disregard for how much of the market would view that omission negatively? Did they justify it due to cutting costs, design limitations or issues making a floating pin a problem? Who knows.

They're making a lot of money nowadays and new products coming so I'm sure so they probably aren't very concerned at all at this point. I feel that if they do something like that again they'll lose sales and more good regard.

BTW, I really liked my Subox and the subtank that came with it but gave the subox to my friend here because it was a nice step up to what he had been using before. He could be the type of vaper Kanger had in mind as he hadn't yet tried a small sized box mod and had been using only simple clearomizers. Thankfully they made a decent connection at the 510. :)

They do but I don't think it's been released yet, there's plenty of pre-orders up.

They are indeed, but I believe Kanger did want to release a fixed pin first.

And neither do I, from a customer point of view. From their point of view, it can be discussed.

I would bet my left arm on it that they had planned this, like other companies do (Helloooo eLeaf/Sigelei/P4Y with TC...). And it is not at all uncommon outside vaping too! They developed a great product with full up to date specs. What they do then is to strip the first version to be released out of some options, like floating pin, usb port, TC board why not. They secretly keep the second version that includes all the perks for few months later.

After the release of the first version, if the product is of good quality and well marketed, like the Subox in this case, it sales. Wait until the sales slow down and release, WITHOUT ANY EXTRA COSTS, the new version that in fact was the original version. Assembly lines are the same, price and logistic as well, packaging ? It's real time made so you can add a nice slogan in 3 seconds.

Tadaaaam you have made 2 products out of one, 2 time the lifespan marketing wise and, but that's where the thin limit is, you can say you listened to your customer and treat yourself with a great ego boost :)

Mind you guys, Porsche is doing it since ages with the 911 ^^

I am an original owner of a P4U IPV2. I sat and waited and waited for it to come. I worried through the wait as I bought it through Elev8Vape and if you are familiar with the crap that went down with that you can understand my worry. Now once I received it, a week later the IPV2s comes out with an up-gradable chip. Now I was seriously torqued off with P4U..... not because of the fact that I didn't recieve the latest and greatest but because they all of a sudden cancelled my warranty because it was bought through Elev8Vape and Elev8Vape didn't go along with their price fixing. I can't fault them for upgrading their product and still shipping out the unit I ordered. I knew what I ordered and received it. Them however cancelling my warranty due to their price fixing shenanigans is crap business and therefore I won't ever do business with them again.
