1. Welcome to Thailand Vapers, an English language forum for members in Thailand and the rest of Asia to talk about vaping.
Commonly referred to as e-cigarettes, vaping is really about the use of personal vaporizers (mods) and atomizers (tanks, clearos, RBAs, RDAs, RTAs) filled with e-liquid.
Are you looking to get started or an old hand at vaping? Everyone is welcome here so sign up today and talk vaping with us!

More pressure being applied by Lords, MPs and MEPs regarding the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD)

This entry was posted on 2nd June 2016 in Totally Wicked by gemma.

Recently we have seen a ‘fatal motion’ proposed by Lord Callanan in the House of Lords, MP Anne Main has called for the House of Commons to annul the TPD, and now we see that the Conservative MEPs in Brussels are taking steps to re-open the debate on the TPD.

This is heartening news for vapers, though it could be mentioned that this level of action would have been welcome 2 years ago, when the TPD was going through the EU system.

Writing about this on the Conservatives in Europe blog, MEPs Julie Girling and Vicky Ford explain that they have written to EU Research, Science and Innovation Commissioner Carlos Moedas asking him to examine the latest evidence on the health effects of vaping, and, whether it can help long term smokers give up traditional cigarettes.

The hope is that if Mr Moedas makes a similar finding to that of Public Health England and the Royal College of Physicians, the European Commission will look again at the controversial Tobacco Products Directive.
Conservative Environment Co-ordinator Mrs Girling (South West and Gibraltar) said, "There is great concern that the new regulations will dissuade smokers from switching to e-cigarettes."

"There was little scientific input when this part of the directive was drawn up and further evidence has subsequently highlighted the potential public health benefits of e-cigarettes. We believe it is time some facts were introduced into this debate and hope Mr Moedas will agree to our request.

"This is a great opportunity to use the expertise of the Scientific Advice Mechanism. This is a highly qualified and highly respected group of eminent scientists from across Europe which was put in place largely thanks to Conservative MEP pressure."

TPD Vote Next Week Plus Big Opinion Poll
    Abzed.com
3 Jun 2016 — The vote on Lord Callanan’s motion to block the TPD is scheduled to happen next week between the 6 and 10 June.

We will send you the exact date as soon as we know it and we will also be sending you the results of a big opinion poll being conducted this weekend by the independent agency Populus on what vapers think about the TPD. (Thank you to www.vapeclub.co.uk for paying for it.)

If we win this vote then the TPD IS SUNK. The government could then get Parliament to pass the non-vaping parts but e-cigarettes would be free from the worst of Article 20.

What is ABSOLUTELY VITAL is getting Labour Party support in the vote.

    SO TWEET LABOUR!

    @heidi_mp @lucianaberger @GwynneMP @KeeleyMP @justinmadders @lordphilofbrum

They are Labour’s Health Team. Tell them how keen you are for their support in defeating the government over the TPD.

Jeremy Corbyn has described the TPD’s regulations on e-cigarettes as “perverse” and his shadow health minister said last month that vaping should not have been included in the TPD.

So get Labour to be good to its word and back #LordsVapeVote

If you want to send a respectful email then write to Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, Heidi Alexander MP heidi.alexander.mp@parliament.uk
