I think it's unlikely. There are already regulations in place for the carriage of loose batteries on airplanes (enacted last year). They're no longer allowed in checked luggage...they must be carried on and there are also limits on the quantity. I think we'll be ok.

    Just my 2 setangs worth.

The regulation will affect individual vapers when they start limiting how many batteries or how many mahs one can bring on board I think, like the 100 ml liquid allowance

Most airlines already do this...but the watt-hour rating of an 18650 isn't a lot so carrying 4-6 isn't a problem.

    Snip from Delta Airlines regs...

These also can only be placed in carry-on luggage now.
(but you probably knew that) ;)

Yet more hurdles to jump--flying is getting more and more tedious, and stressful.

So cheery & positive in the morning @haybilly! :p
For once, this particular ban makes it safer for us to fly and I'm all for it. ;)

I'm just not looking forward to flying back to the West with all my Vape gear, including about 10x 18650 bats, 4 x 18350, 2 or 3 iStick type mods, and so on- when we finally move back. I am going to have to spread the amount and ask my daughter to carry some batteries, I fear.
I took 6 x 18650 on my recent trip and left them there.

The funny thing is - all powerbanks are based on those batteries, and there's limitation by airport/airlines (IDK) at 20,000mAh I heard, so the proud owners of chinese powerbanks with all those 30,000-50,000mAh now have to shave that number off the body :D
Btw, usually when I travel, I take with me battery containing stuff:
    -digital camera
    -tablet
    -notebook
    -smartphone
    -powerbank.
Any restriction would very heavily impact on those and, possibly, cannot happen, as those things are part of the furniture of any traveler/businessman/whoever flying.

According to the Airports of Thailand (AOT) site, you can bring an unlimited number of power banks on board if each is under 20,000 mAh but only 2 units if they fall between 20,000 mAh to 32,000 mAh.

Power banks over 32,000 mAh are prohibited (link).

That might be why the Airport Security asked me if my I Sticks (2) and my Genuine Power Bank were all Power Banks. I clarified the situation by saying that the Sticks were power sources for E Cigs and they let them go- but, maybe, they would have preferred to hear that there were all Power Banks ( which they are, in a way)

I always carry a MVP3.0 Pro in my bag even though I don't use it much nowadays. In case any problem arises then I can just flip it over and pull out the charging cable to show them that it's really IS a power bank.
