1. Welcome to Thailand Vapers, an English language forum for members in Thailand and the rest of Asia to talk about vaping.
Commonly referred to as e-cigarettes, vaping is really about the use of personal vaporizers (mods) and atomizers (tanks, clearos, RBAs, RDAs, RTAs) filled with e-liquid.

A reminder of what the INTENT of the ban was:

"Deputy Prime Minister Visanu Krua-ngarm in charge of legal affairs explained that the Commerce Ministry’s regulation only meant to ban the import of hookah and electric cigarettes and did not prohibit any people from possessing the two products."

Read more at: cabinet endorses import ban on electric cigarettes - Thai PBS English News
So what happened to this reasonable stance? :completely forgotten:

Where exactly in Bangkok was he stopped? Do you know what precinct he was taken too? Was he singled out or were the police asking everyone to empty there pockets?

The stop sounds similar to the "Sukhumvit shakedown" as it was called in the news reported in the Bangkok post last year.

    **Updated**
Since I cant understand these postings coming off "youlike" I'm not putting much stock in them just yet. I wonder if their not (as DV points out) some form of planned social media propaganda.

The first "youlike" link was already proven to be misleading by SD. This one I don't know if its a report of someone actually going to jail or if its another warning of the existing law and its worst case scenario?
    **Updated**
Did she say that something is actually hapening? (Arrests, fines, a public anouncement from the police of Government that a crackdown is taking place or that they are going to start enforcing this law on consumers?)

Or are the comments just the reactions to the existing law that has now been brought to light in social media?

He was stopped at a check point on Silom Road. Many people were being checked (many Thais too) and he was taken to the Bangrak police station.

@Loki will be along when he has a bit of time as he's done some research/translation on this. The short version is the guy got done for selling one piece of vape gear (IPV6)...bail was set at ฿150K; he ultimately got out for ฿100K after 2-3 days (when the BiB got around to filing the paperwork). He's being threatened with 5-10 years in jail (!) and a fine of ฿500K.

This may well be the case...but where there's smoke, there's usually fire. It would be most helpful if @Panthanit Koonnil is able to report back on what he found out, and if @Lyss would be able to shed some light on the legalities of what's going on. Above all, it would be nice to know why this is happening now...if we're headed for a SG situation, then they should just come out and say that.

I plan to keep my head down until there's more clarity (and/or something else becomes the crusade du jour). :)

And exactly how do you plan to keep your head down? I don't think I will be carrying any vape gear if I decide to go out to any bars/pubs at night. So where does that leave me. While having a few drinks I most definitely need to vape and considering I wont be carrying any mods with me, will I end up at a 7/11 to pick up a pack of Marlboros?

If I go out for drinks (which we don't do very often anymore), I'll be carrying an old ProVari 2.5 in 18350/500 mode (in my sock!?) or a VS rDNA30/40, all of which were pre-ban purchases. It probably won't make much difference but it'll make me feel better! I'm thinking that things may be a bit looser in Pattaya compared to the Big City...only time will tell.

Interesting that e cigs were mentioned in this new smoking bill
    Source

The cabinet on Tuesday approved in principle a new tobacco products bill which seeks to tighten up the sale of tobacco products or cigarette to minors and at public places and cigarette promotion.
Proposed by the Public Health Ministry, the bill will replace the Tobacco Products Control Act B.E. 2535 and the Non-smokers’ Health Protection Act B.E, 2535.

In essence, the bill seeks to increase the minimum age of cigarette or tobacco products buyers to 20 from 18; to ban sale of unpacked cigarettes and sale through pretties and to ban sale of cigarettes at public places such as temples, entertainment venues, health offices, educational institutes and public parks.

Cigarette advertisements in the form of sports and competition sponsorships will also be prohibited besides advertisement ban through the media, movies and computer network.

Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Yutthawong said that the new measure will also cover other products which have nicotine ingredient such as electric cigarettes and baragu.

Under the bill, selling cigarettes or tobacco products to buyers under 20 is liable to one year imprisonment and/or a fine of 20,000 baht instead of one month and/or a fine of 2,000 baht.

Cigarette smoking in smoking-free areas will be liable to a fine of 5,000 baht instead of 2,000 baht.

Actually, old smoking bill as it was a year ago

When my daughter viewed posts on Thai social media she said they were people speaking about the danger of arrest or fines for possession of vape gear. She did not see specific reports of personal accounts only fear on the part of the posters regarding what they termed was a crackdown on vaping. It seems the Thai speaking public knows no more than we do from the posts in this thread.

I was hoping this is all just a variation of the cigarette butt scam, so mention of Silom is encouraging.
