1. Welcome to Thailand Vapers, an English language forum for members in Thailand and the rest of Asia to talk about vaping.
Commonly referred to as e-cigarettes, vaping is really about the use of personal vaporizers (mods) and atomizers (tanks, clearos, RBAs, RDAs, RTAs) filled with e-liquid.

Certainly seems that they are tightening the vice not slacking it off. And as ever, the potential for it all to go seriously downhill at the point of getting nabbed (previously just in the street but now at airports too) is a very real possibility.

Personally it's WAY too much of a risk for me to put all my trust in luck just to be able to say "I got through X airport OK" given the circumstances you could find yourself in if you don't. And at the end of the day, all the speculation in the world about who is likely to get informed or dragged into to your situation won't affect what they actually DO and what happens as a result.

I can't say its vape related but I see everyone coming in getting his luggage through X-Rays now at the airport here in Chiang Mai.

A few month back it was not the case at all.

Well I just caught up with this thread and went through swampy security before I read it.

No problems or issues for me.

Bit this is really making me think to never bring my gear into thailand until they fix the law.

Maybe need to explore some other countries instead.

I think the main airport of concern has been DMK so far... not so much the rest. The venerable @Siam Diesel confirmed that a page or two ago. Since that's the airport I usually fly to/from... that's the main airport of concern for me too :D

At the moment, DMK is in the cross hairs for departures from TH as this is the first airport where the (outbound) security scanners are not letting vape gear through in carry-on luggage. We can only hope that this doesn't spread to Swampy & other airports but I'm not optimistic. :(

As for entering LOS, Customs at all airports seem to be using a higher degree of vigilance...whether it's specifically for vape gear or not, I don't think we'll ever know.

Just for clarity... carry-on meaning hand luggage/cabin baggage? Not checked/hold baggage?

    That's my understanding.
In theory, according to current ICAO regulations (it's quoted elsewhere on here), no ecigs are to be placed in checked/hold luggage. However, I choose to interpret that as meaning that ecigs with integral batteries cannot be placed in checked luggage (just like power banks). A mod without a battery is an inert box that isn't able to cause any harm to the plane...call it following the spirit of the regulation. Now, if the boys on the luggage scanner think they see an ecig in your checked/hold luggage, you may be in for a discussion (power bank w/out batteries, isn't it?). ;)

That's how I usually travel, mod disassembled, any battery covers are removed so they can see easily there aren't any batteries inside, battery cover separated (or in my hand luggage). I started doing that since the first time Udon suddenly (for a very short period of time) had outgoing scanners for checked/hold luggage and they asked me to remove my ecig from my checked/hold luggage - even though it didn't have batteries in (but the metal cover was still on - so possibly they couldn't see there were no batteries). Hopefully, that's the only thing they're looking for still (both arriving and departing DMK)... mods with batteries.
    **Updated**
Spoke to Asa Ace (of ECST Facebook) today. Here's what he had to say when I asked him about what we had heard...

Some slight edits by me for formatting and readability.

From what I understand, practice maximum caution if you're flying with your mods/tanks right now. Personally, if I'm flying tomorrow (especially if it's through DMK), I'm going to make sure every screw is removed from my mod, and every piece possible is separated. If my mod in 20 pieces and takes 30 minutes to reassemble, but I make it through, that's something I'm prepared to do. I'm not going to be heading over to Thailand just yet, so hopefully that light at the end of the tunnel is a little closer than my next trip to Udon.

    Stay safe everyone...

Thanks for all the info. This is very helpful. I fly in next Saturday (though Swampy) and am a bit nervous. I plan to bring a few mods and tanks and just leave them in the LOS. Also, the missus and I are flying from DKM to Phuket (air asia) in April for a few days.

Wondering if I could/should mail my stuff down to Phuket from BKK and back.

I would be cautious about going through Swampy... but flat out paranoid about going through DMK... at least based on the info received. That said, best to be just paranoid going in/out of any airport in Thailand. I've got no experience mailing gear within Thailand, so I won't comment on that.

    Good luck!

Untill now, I never had any issues sending or receiving gear inside the country (Ems is highly recommended).
I could see very recently that people who sent me products put silly name not related to vaping, so I recommend you not to tell or write that it is vaping gear.
    Cheers.
P.s : This is becoming highly ridiculous but coherent with the people in c****e since 201* (freedom of speech).

When you send something they usually ask what's in the package, just be prepared with a lie, it's not like they're going to check it. Batteries of any kind are not allowed to be shipped so just deny that there are any, again, they're highly unlikely to check.

Liquids are fine domestically, can't send any out of the country though.

    Cheers

Thanks that would work! If i do EMS it, i would ship the mod and carry the batteries on the plan, maybe put juice in checked luggage with toiletries.
