i did quad vertical coils with cotton through the middle and there is not enough airflow, it restricts the airflow path.

tried many coils and by far the best is 0.40mm (26awg)....2.4mm hole...9 turns (turns 1 and 9 are half turns)....on a vtc5, it will last from 6pm-12am on a night of drinking. I really recommend this coil setup, puts out like a dripper, and the battery loves it...consistent from 4.2v-3.2v.

 

From some postings I have read in other forums, vertical coil builds with cotton around the outside can actually be more restrictive with airflow and no benefits in terms of flavor or vapor production. Not sure about the Orchids specifically. I feel they already have a much more open draw compared to Kayfuns, Russian 91's and Kayfun clones so haven't felt the need to try something like that. You could try it out and see but if you want more open than stock your best bet may be to drill out the air holes.
