Yeah, i'll do a combination of those both solutions.
I'll use a plastic bag if i run into complications.

    Thanks guys :)

If it really is a battery operated device--problem solved--but, I very much doubt that any developer these days would fit hundreds of those in these new Condo blocks--it's most likely wired into the mains circuit, so just find the Fusebox, eliminate which circuit it's on--and, pull down the breaker, so the power is off, and unwire the bloody thing--when you move out , rewire it.

If this seems like too much hassle--your GF has the best idea.

Glad to hear you made it back safe and sound from Belgium, mate. Staying here now for some time?

Given the sh*te wiring I've seen over here, I'd want my smoke detectors to always be working! YMMV

Have you got some?? I have never had one in any of my houses in Thailand for 17 years.
The wiring is Shii-ite, but so little wood in house building due to critters, not much to burn.

I had some battery-powered units sent over...now have hard-wired units in the house tied to the alarm system.

Yeah it does seem like it for a noob like me... ;)

Thanks mate ! Yeah, i plan to stay here for a while.

    FUNNY UPDATE:

A few minutes ago, I was skyping with a friend when a very loud alarm started ringing.
The sound was in the entire building and not only in my room.
I looked up to my smoke detector (yeah, i was vaping) and it didn't turn red so I figured I didn't cause it.
Still, i did hurry outside (as a few people on my floor) and passed cross a security guy.
I asked him what happened (using my most innocent thai tone ever) and he answered with a big smile that it was become someone was smoking... WTF ???
I guess i should choose the color of the plastic bag now...

Haha,OMG!! That's one sensitive detector, worst I've come across, and I've vaped on several Airplanes, and in a few hotel rooms with no problem.

I honestly still don't think it was me as my smoke detector's lights didn't turn red.
But I just don't want the same thing to happen because of me.

I made some research and it looks like a plastic bag or a shower cap will do the trick. ^^

Yes, that's what I'd do, if the battery door is not visible

If you can remove the battery(s) use them overnight in a torch or other until expended. Then reinsert. That way the Landlord will also not be suspicious when he/she makes rounds to change the batteries next time as the same ones/make/model will still be in place.

It is up to you. But do not forget there is a small chance you might be made liable for excessive damage if there is a fire. You are a foreigner. You are rich.
I don't even know anyone whoms life or property was really saved by these items, I have no clue if this really helps in real fire situations, etc etc. But I know we are sometimes responsible for everything.

Yes, I do agree that, IF the battery is accessible, removal ( and doing what Nick suggested is definitely the most sensible suggestion) is best.
If not, then you are stuck with the 'Elephant Condom' solution, but this does carry a very small risk element.

You guys are right but I can't open the damn thing...
There are no screw so it must be a "clap" system but I'm a bit scared to actually break the cover.

Not sure I'll leave the bag on and will maybe give the "opening process" a new try later.

But I'm sure i won't live here for 1 year in the perpetual fear of setting off the alarm for the entire building...
