1. Welcome to Thailand Vapers, an English language forum for members in Thailand and the rest of Asia to talk about vaping.
Commonly referred to as e-cigarettes, vaping is really about the use of personal vaporizers (mods) and atomizers (tanks, clearos, RBAs, RDAs, RTAs) filled with e-liquid.

well..there are still many Vapers in silly city, surely not like KL. I brought in a subox mini, an evic mini, from BKK 8 juice, last week seven US juice, on friday hopefully another 4-5 US juice. I went down to 2-4 cigs per day from 12-14, weekends zero unless I'm out. So for the conditions not too bad. But yes the new regulation doesn't allow one to really enjoy it and for travelling in or out a pain.
What I do is take of the labels (only leave the name of juice), if I buy outside a new mod I take it apart and distribute the single items in the luggage and backpack

Just curious, how do people vape down in SG? Do they only vape privately in residential area or is there some sort of super secret vapemeet or something?

not like in KL e.g. where I saw people (actually many people) vaping in restaurants and streets. In sillycity during the day I sometimes see people going to the car park for a vape instead of the outdoor smoking area. Here and there people can be seen in restaurants in the evenings like blue jazz which used to have a shisha corner but shisha is also banned (since Dec 2014). Yes I'd say mostly privately at home

During my business trips there, I typically vape only in my hotel room, the office (we have no vaping policy :D) and in mall toilet stalls. I was warned about not vaping in mall restaurants & bars due to the ever-present nanny cam system. ;)

The illegality of vaping aside, I don't go to Singapore because when I went there I found it to be a boring and sterile place. I would liken SG to Disneyland...some people like it, some people don't. The filth and naughtiness of Bangkok is more my style.

ive had the interesting opportunity to have grown up in singapore in the late 80s n 90s - this was right smack during the 'campaign' years - there was the smile campaign, the brush your teeth campaign, the be courteous campaign, the dont pee in lifts, flush toilets and banning of chewing gum in singapore -
At the time, there was almost no mass media coverage of parliament or law making in action - still state run television (remember the sbc days and zoe tay, my sg brethren?) and we were bombarded each national day with hella catchy tunes every national day on tv every other ad break - which have been scorched into our brains - and i defy anyone from my generation not to sing along with these songs anytime anywhere anyday!

Point is sg law makers have trully thought about it all, and whatever their decision, caning of first time offenders of vandalism, banning chewing gum and hanging others on a weekly basis, ALOT of machinery has gone into action prior to making their policy change - I have been witness of rules being changed and how they start deciding on which pharma products are allowed and / or banned...
I have to mention here than in Thailand, whatever happens in the prosperous economic miracle down south is quickly followed within thailand - i can cite many many examples - of course to ban vape gear the way sg has isnt an option in a place still the leading yaba producer in the world, but we will not stray too much into this discussion...

Just wanted to mention i went from squeaky clean sg to greece - thats the country in the EU that has been bankrupt for 5 years - yet cigarettes are still very cheap, compared to other eu countries, or the UK - certainly sg tax, comparable to thai tax for tobacco... in fact - in greece (my fatherland), they still steadfastly REFUSE to adopt banning adverts on cigarettes - refuse to put ANY gross pictures on packaging - this is a country where you simply cannot enforce any law if the people do not accept it - in essence, the OPPOSITE of what made singapore the success it has become in the last 20 years i have come to love and hate sg as my second home...

Anyway - you cant have it all - cheers y'all

Up to you Singapore. You've lost my tourist bahts. And I was so looking forward to taking the family for a few weeks in the Marina Bay Sands, and Singapore Slings in Raffles of an evening. Wearing an off-white linen suit of course.

Confiscate sent packages, heavy fines for sellers, watch internet activities, check car boots at the border from the north, etc.

Thailand I feel more balanced, there are clean places, and then there's dirty, and naughty places ... More fun overall I think ;)

I didn't like the no duty free on tabacco in Singapore, can't remember what prices would have been in sg, trouble for me often travelling was getting a brand I liked to smoke, more than what the exact cost.

Sg got their own somewhat unique situation of being a glorified city. Not sure I agree with their process of law making, especially in light of the laughable legislation cited in respect of cigarette "like" products, seemed more to me like abusing legislation that was meant for something else - stopping kids smoking. This is easy to legislate for, just ban illegalise products for minors. Fine the parents etc ... Blaming vapers, bullshit, that's shallow and unfair.

Greece I visited islands in the past. Found Greece, so so really, but not extensively travelled. Have some Greek friends too.

And yes, I had wondered about Thailand following sg lead, it's an interesting dynamic.

Thanks for chipping in, interesting to hear your thoughts ...

    Yup, same mick :)

It's real and happening from what I understand.

Thanks Peter, it's really happening in sg, for any unbelievers ...

Seems people are still vaping in sg, hopefully sg will see sense and bring some reasonable rules soon ... It's possible I'll have business in Singapore at some point, what with them being a financial hub, fingers crossed vaping will be more straightforward there by then ...

I feel for you what you mean. I live here since 20 years. Loved it, hated it, loved it again, but now so I think the beginning of the end may come.

In the past there were the heavy campaignings and "public education". No porn, don't smoke, no chewing gum, whatever. Everyone who wants to have chewing gum knows where to get it. Who wants porn can still see it. You were considered silly being caught with illegal cigarettes, and you could still provide for yourself. There was always a small foot-path around. Just keep it private, keep it low profile, don't bother others, and you can look at porn, chew a chewing gum and still have your smoke.

That's how Singapore became one of the cleanest and best places in the world. That's an achievement, considering Singapore is a tiny little place surrounded by a sea of crime, drug abuse and other shit.

To the people promplain about Singapore "sterile", no, that's not the entire truth. If you live here you'd know where you can have that filthy side. Whatever. As for me, I DO ENJOY I don't need to worry about my wife going out with her friends and returning after 1 am only. She will be fine. She is not being molested by 150 guys at the rail-way station. That's freedom, too, guys.

But it feels as if things are changing slowly. I somehow I got the feeling there is soon no more small foot-pass left, no more corner for different shades to thrive happily. The rigourous handling of vapers is only one thing.

Indochina will go up as SG will loose importance. Visit Singapore for those who didn't yet. It might be an interesting learning for you, I guess it will be.

Interesting twist, airasia just cancelled my flight, so I've booked with jetstar and scoot, with minimal possible stopover, by the time I've done two way customs, the time will have passed. Hopefully get a refund from airasia, but not holding my breath on that.

Seems that thread drifted onto all things Singapore, which is great, filled in my gaps in knowledge. However, as a reminder, I'm boycotting Singapore due to their unfair and heavy handed treatment of vapers, and that they utterly refused any concession to vapers traveling via Singapore. Aside from that I reckon Singapore's a nice place, and all Singaporeans I've met struck me as good people.

Scuba Vaper, I utterly support your boycott and will join in. My boycott is because I find it a damn boring place...

As for me personally, Singapores biggest disadvantage is it's small size. The second one is, many seem unable to follow simplest rules unless there are heaviest punishments.
